Vitelli FW23 "COSMICA"

Over the past few seasons, in our space we have been striving to create a style by drawing inspiration from "the last Italian subculture", namely the Cosmic Scene - Cosmica - of the early 1980s (named after the club "Cosmic" that stood on the shores of Lake Garda). Cosmica was based on the concept of dance as a shared experience.

Cosmica understood in its dual meaning of spatial and spiritual, pertaining as much to the cosmos as to the individual's participation in the collective. Like dance. Dance: universal and terrestrial, individual and collective at the same time. Everyone is "normal" while dancing, because there is no normality in that gesture. Those who dance immerse themselves in the Cosmic. So do those who travel. The journey can be physical or mental, and can transcend movement.Vitelli's imagery feeds on travel as an existential dimension. For the Hippie Trail travelers, the journey was not moving from one point to another on the planet, but whatever would happen by letting go between those points. Sometimes consciously, sometimes instinctively. And how to translate this into a style of clothing?

For how we mean it, Cosmica stands between elegant and rustic. Rustic not as quaint, or primitive; more as a form of vitality.
Cosmica could be a long knitted open-braid mohair dress to be worn under a needle-punched wool "yarn-fall" jacket; a pared-down version, a sweater-dress with visible seams, worn over jeans embroidered with silk scraps, may seem slouchy, but it is Cosmica.
